This community will be for what I hope to be our adventures in the world of Krynn, also known as Dragonlance. If any of you have read Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, or Dragons of Spring Dawning then you should be very familiar with this world. If not, this post and the next few will be all about giving you some history.
Krynn is different from every other Dungeons & Dragon world. It is very epic and sweeping good vs. evil, right vs. wrong. The characters are wonderful, the stories magnificent. It is populated by humans, elves, dwarves, all the usual races. Their dark elves are not a malevolent race living below ground, but an elf cast out of his society. (Elves are a topic all their own I must research some more to go into detail) Instead of halflings Krynn has kender. Kender are a mischievous race of "handlers" who "find" things in their pockets. Their attention span is very short. They have gnomes but their gnomes are called Tinkers; they build things, things that tend to go awry and often explode.
There are subspecies of both dwarf and elf. The half-elf exists as well. All the monsters of D&D are present as well. For those of you who love the knight in shining armor, there are the Knights of Solamnia: the order of the crown, sword and rose. They are not paladins, just lawful knights.
Dragons were once banished from this world. All dragons be they good or evil were gone for so long people believed them to be a myth. Paladine was the god of good, Takhisis the god of evil. Krynn has three moons: white (good), red (neutral) and black (evil, also invisible). These moons rule the magic of this world. Only mages know of the black moon.
About 350 years before our story begins, a man known as the Kingpriest of Istar is so arrogant in his goodness, so righteous in his destruction of evil, that he himself has become dark. The gods cast a mountain to the world, causing the Cataclysm. Istar is destroyed and the landscape of Krynn changed for good. Elves withdrew to their forests, dwarves to their mountain homes.
Centuries pass, evil begins to awaken. dragon eggs of good dragons are corrupted to from vile creatures known as draconians. Takhisis wakes her evil dragons and they quietly return to the world, preparing for war. Paladine nudges a band of friends (who would later become the Companions of the Lance) into action to stop this evil. They discover the dragonlance which causes vast damage to all dragon kind. Eventually, Takhisis is defeated and the balance of good and evil is restored.
But the dragons remain......both good and evil......
More to come....
